Licensing and Intellectual Property Rights

On the Shoulders of...

We aren’t open-source communitarian zealots. We aren’t especially political. But we recognise that whatever value we bring to our clients is dependent on the accumulated generosity, assistance and support of others. Many, many others, most of whom we’ve never met other than through the felicitation of Google.

Good people have gifted excellent ideas, products and time to the commons, and where appropriate, Ku24 Limited will use and attribute such ideas and products as part of our solutions.

In return, we endeavour to offer back to the commons our own ideas and developments.

Which might seem rather self-destructive for a commercial business.

However, we believe, passionately, that the benefit of technology is in its application. We add value by applying our ideas (and those we have appropriated from the commons) to your needs. You can have the ideas for free, but then it’s up to you to work out what to do with them. We think you’ll get better value if you give us a call, so we can work with you to do that together. The choice is up to you.

Maybe we’ve got this wrong, and we should be keeping all the good ideas to ourselves. But we would rather share with the world and see what happens.

What This Means for Our Clients

Anything we develop for you, with your money, is yours (to the extent that licenses permit). Anything we develop ourselves is free for non-commercial use. If you want to use our work commercially, we will license it to you for your non-exclusive use. Exclusive commercial licenses will cost you more. So let’s talk.

Free Thinking

If you want some fully worked-up free thinking, look on our website. [1] There you will find whitepapers and other thought-provoking reading materials. Details of licensing are included in each document.

If you want some ideas which are a little rougher around the edges, but fresher and more adventurous, you are welcome to explore Darrell’s weblog, Cluster, [2] where the thinking behind our products is often being developed long before they’re ready for release to our clients. Please join in. Ideas are always welcome. That’s what we’re about.
